youve all seen the movies about japan where they show big trees with pinkish/red flower petals falling from the tree.
what zone is it in?
can i grow that type of tree in central Montana?
What kind of cherry tree that is native to Japan?
I believe that is the yoshino cherry, it is native to Japan, and is the tree you see in the D.C. area photos. Prunus Yedoensis, is the latin name and it does pretty well in zones 6 through 8 I think. It should do ok in Bute or Big Timber, but outside those areas, it might flounder. It is one of the fastest growers among cherries. There are several other varieties, some might be better suited.
Reply:there are many different varieties ofcherry trees in japan
the most common ones are somei yashino, and Yamazakura
they typically bloom in early spring and are in bloom for just a few days. the pink blossom is called Kanzan.
